The creamy-white or yellowish-white heartwood darkens to a light golden-brown on exposure to sunlight over time. The wood is typically straight-grained, but sometimes wavy or curly, which can produce execellent lacy or fiddleback figuring. It has a fine, even texture and is highly lustrous.

Properties
Sycamore has medium bending and crushing strengths, very low stiffness, and low resistance to shock loads. It planes, bores, turns, moulds, glues, screws, sands and paints well, and nails, stains, and polishes very well.
Durability Sycamore decays relatively easily if untreated, but is permeable for preservative treatment.
